Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Roberts belongs to four generations of the Robertses who live in the Atlanta area beginning by her grandfather John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. Her father was a theatre enthusiast from a very young time. In 1952, while studying at Emory University, he performed on stage in a number of shows in Atlanta. While stationed at Biloxi Mississippi, he received his induction into the Air Force in 1953. Betty Lou Bredemus was part of the show as well. The two married in 1955, and their first son Eric Anthony was born in 1956. Walter was a student at Tulane University at New Orleans, Louisiana in 1957 after the couple had left the US Air Force. Walter began working for Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter and Betty Lou started production in 1964 for the local Saturday morning children's show on television called Bum Bum and His Buddies, which they funded themselves. The following year, they started the Actors and Writers Workshop which operated for a period of six years. The couple had another two children, Lelisa Billingsley (1965) (also called Lisa) as well as Julia Billingsley (1967) (also know by the same name Julie).
